I think I have narrowed down my dishwasher problem. My Maytag MDB9100AWB dishwasher doesn't seem to have very much pressure during the wash cycle. I removed the drain cover plate to inspect the drain impellor. There was supposed to be a check ball there which closes during the wash cycle. It is missing which I believe means lower wash pressures.

Anyway here's the problem. This part is discontinued. The replacement part is for the later series and is too small.

Does anyone know of a similar sized ball used in another machine? Looks like I need a 7/16" to 1/2" diameter ball.

I hate to scrap a good machine for what used to be a $4 part. I have attached a picture (1 inch square) of what I need.

Please let me know,

Jeff

My serial number is:

15039541YY

The hole in the drain cover plate where the check ball seats is about 3/8" in diameter. With the tapered seat area a little more. Doesn't that mean the ball needs to be at least that big so it doesn't go through?

Thank you for your reply. I am totally confused. Maytag only lists one drain cover being available. Part number 99001795 which they say is for Series 10. They don't list one for series 15.

You are correct, I have a Series 15 which according to the Maytag parts list takes part number 99002281 - the small (less than 1/4" diameter) ball.

Here is a picture of my drain cover (with the ruler) which seems to match the ones you can see from the parts dealers websites. It just doesn't look like it will work.

I also attached a picture from the parts dealer's website for comparison. Looks the same as mine to me.

I know other dishwashers use similar check balls. I was hoping someone might have worked on one or had some parts laying around and could steer me to a make and model which would work.

Do you know of a substitute which is close to the same size?

Again you're correct. That parts diagram and list show only one drain cover, which has a 3/8" diameter port, and one check ball, less than 1/4" diameter. What am I missing?

I am tempted to try this check ball for a Sears dishwasher. Looks close, what do you think?
