I have the above dishwasher that seems to have decided it no longer wants to drain. No new disposal or any of that, just quit draining. Noticed a "growling" sound a few loads prior to the failure, but not everytime or consistent. How can I tell if the drain pump simply failed, or if it is something far more sinister.........i.e. problem in the control board or logic components? Is there something to test before just shotgunning the drain pump? Also, can this removal and replacement be accomplished from the inside, or do I need to pull the machine and turn it upside down?

Could just have some Cruddus caught in the pump and/or drain hose - disconnect hose from plumbing and see if it will drain into bucket. Access pump by removing lower front panel

But I don't even hear the pump trying to work. If drain hose were plugged wouldn't you hear an attempt to run? It is silent when it should drain. Is there a way to force it on and bypass the logic? I just don't want to replace the pump and find out something that was supposed to tell it to work didn't. Suggestions?

Another way to test the pump is locate the wiring terminals to the pump, disconnect them and substitute them with a Cheater Cord - you can then determine if the pump has the ability to run and if it can pump or not

How long does it need to run before I hit cancel to make it start to drain? If I don't hear it, would it be safe to assume that the pump itself is bad?

If the pump doesn't start with the cheater cord, it is jammed with debris or needs replacement, if the pump runs but no drain the hose is blocked or the pump has failed.
