Sub Zero 601F Ice buildup and moisture in ice bin

7 posts in this topic

The metal bar that goes across the back of the freezer has a wall of ice on it. The ice in the basket tends to quickly turn into a block of ice (more so in the back of the drawer). What's causing this? How can it be resolved? I found info on the web that indicates a part that heats the trough should be added, but it appears to no longer be made.

Thank you in advance for you input.

-Richard

Could be a defrost failure; could be a leaking ice maker. Need a visual. Post some photos like GMF Reg suggested.

Here are the images. There is water fall shaped ice on the metal bar on the non-icemaker side and both above and below the icemaker.u0xz42w15vqbz27qc7ar_c.jpg

Looks like a frozen condensate drain. You'll need to remove the icemaker and the back inside wall to clear the ice from the trough and then clear the drain. You'll need to add a condensate drain heater kit or it'll happen again.

Thank you. Do you happen to have a part number for the kit?

When you take ice maker and trough cover off there will be a bi-metal you need to check while it is cold. Not main defrost bi-metal. If lower bi-metal is closed trough and drain heaters will need replaced.
