I don't think any Oil will flow into that Vent Hole (center of "V") very quickly...

Thank you for your fast replies. This is my 1st attempt to do anything to a washer. I estimate about 2 ounces leaked out, not much. Thanks Grand Master for sending the picture!
Removing the trans. appears to be really complicated. Since the transmission case is still mounted, I'll feel around and try to locate the "V" and the vent. I'm thinking about jacking the washer up in the upright poisition so I can work under it. Then the vent will be in the "up/normal" position. Then hopefully I can figure out how to get a syringe with oil up to the vent & add some, IF necessary. If you think I need to add oil, will 90W straight mineral oil work? I have that in my 1956 Thunderbird overdrive transmission. OR should I use a more modern 90W automotive differential/rear end oil? If so, which one?
You can see I'm fumbling around not knowing what I'm doing, but at 68 years of age, I do that lots. :o) Thanks for any advice you can send.

If only an ounce or two of oil leaked out the vent hole on the top of the transmission cover from laying the machine on it's back for awhile you shouldn't have any problems.
My personal opinion is that these transmissions are very strong and durable and could probably be ran almost dry of oil and still work for a very long time, (I believe a full transmission holds about 16 ounces of oil).

Thanks for the oil recommendation. I had read to use 90w gear oil, but then I read lots of things.
It was upside down because that's the only way it would fiit in the U-Haul trailer - Illinios to Texas. We were cleaning out my Dad's apartment after he died and were leaving the washer to load last. If there wasn't room, we would leave it. When we loaded all we wanted, it did fit in back of all the other items, but had to go in upside down. No I wasn't drunk... :o) Tony5657 in TX
