I recently purchased a used maytag washer and now it isn't working. The main problem it seems to be having is it is not draining, although on the touch screen it says "not filling properly". I had a friend who used to work on appliances tell me there is a sensor that goes out and does not allow it to fill correctly. The schematics are not in the back of the washer where they are on the dryer so we're kind of at a loss here.
If anyone has any idea or has had this problem, help please!!!

Remove the suction hose to the drain pump and check for gookus in the impeller like I did on this Whirlpool Duet Sport washer:

Okay, sorry. After further investigation we have realized that draining may not be the problem...or doesn't seem to be. It has gone completely through the spin cycle once. And when we go to take out the clothes they smell as if they have been through the soak cycle but they haven't been rinsed and are still very wet. Honestly, our household knows nothing about washing machines, so if you have any questions that can help narrow it down we can try and answer to the best of our knowledge.

Annd, evey single time it stops it displays the message "not filling properly"....hope that helps some!

Rinse is done with cold water. See your problem sounds similar to this one albeit on a different washer:

we pulled off the valve but how are we supposed to clean it out? the valves aren't open if its not running, right? and the inlet has a screen on it...we ran water through it & are going to put it back together and see if that works but im not sure we even got it cleaned out...
will update on we get it back together.

lemme specify...the water would come out of the outlet that goes to the soap but not out of the inlet part. hope that makes sense.

depending on the type of Valve,
the Screens can be removed for cleaning ...
AND, while the Screens are removed, you could try this:
Disconnect the House end of the Cold Water Hose,
and place into a bucket or the laundry sink.
Run the Washer with a warm Water fill cycle.
The hot water entering the Valve under pressure,
may also exit the Cold Water side, flushing the Valve.
Don't forget to re-install the Screens !

Awesome, thanks. We weren't sure if we would screw up the valve if we took out the screens....don't wanna mess up a $55 part out of stupidity

Those screens are the metal pressed-in kind-- they are not made to be removed for cleaning like the plastic screens on the Frigidaire washers. You have now compromised the valve a la the Stupid Plumber's Trick ==> http://appliantology...ooding-washers/
