I have an electric Maytag dryer that is about 12 years old. Despite being used constantly (I have four kids) it has been virtually trouble free up to this point. It started a couple of months ago with a intermittent "cricket" sound. The noise would come and go so no big deal right? Well it has been getting considerably worse and while the noise still comes and goes, when it comes it is very very loud and sounds like many many crickets. I took it apart but besides some wear around the drum where it meets that felt lining it appears to look ok. I don't think this is where the cricket noise is coming from but then again I don't anything about dryers. Thanks for any help, Doug

We would need a model number to be sure.
Without a model number you should check the blower wheel on the motor shaft.
It is most likely worn out in the cemter.

Depending on your model number, your blower wheel will look like one of these on this page ==> http://www.repaircli...Fan-Blade-Parts

Here's how to replace it on a Dependable Care model dryer:

When you took the dryer apart did you happen to check the idler pulley? That would be the large pulley that your belt goes around, right above the motor. If it is bad it will be very clear, the pulley will jiggle across the shaft and the immediate area around the puley with be coated in a black powder. When the bearing wears out they tend to make a noise similar to what your are hearing.
