Two very common troubleshooting techniques that should be in every Appliantologist's toolbox are the non-contact voltage sensing light stick and the humble jumper wire.
You'll occasionally hear purists and other snobs ignorantly poo-poo the voltage light stick. But properly used with an understanding of its limitations and capabilities, the voltage light stick can be a tremendous time saver on service calls.
Strategic use of the jumper wire is a great way to by-pass suspected-bad parts to see if proper function is thereby restored.
This video demonstrates and explains the proper use of both of these time-saving and time-honored troubleshooting techniques that should be part of every Appliantologist's repair arsenal, both professionals and DIYers. (This particular dryer is a Whirlpool-built Kenmore but all gas dryers work the same way so the same techniques apply to all brands; the variations will be in disassembly and the locations of some components like the thermal fuse.)
