Amana Washer (Model LWA50AW) - Agitation issue

My Amana washer just basically humms/buzzes when it reaches the initial agitation cycle after filling with water. It drains, spins, etc if you move the dial past the agitation sections of the cycles.

Any assistance is soooooooooo appreciated.

first thing i would do is take off the belt and see if the trans pully spins both ways, one way spins the tub, one way agitates, if it wont turn the agitate way then its time for a new tranny

In the event it is the tranny - any idea how much a replacement would cost and if it is fairly easy to replace?

also check to make sure nothing is stuck under the adgiatator

That's the wrong transmission, Reg. This is a Speed Queen style Amana washer.

Here is the link to the correct transmission for this washer, which for the price of it , I would never even bother with unless you have some sentimental attachment to the washer.

If the motor won't run with the belt off the transmission pulley, but will run fine in spin, the timer could be the problem.

ahh, yes, I see...
there are some replaceable parts (Image 2)
(although we're not sure the Transmission is bad)
