Had a big storm out this way last week, with multiple brown-outs and a black-out.
Since the power failure, the customer's refrigerator has been non-responsive at the touch pad and showing the error code for "defrost sensor failure."
When I looked at the evaporator, I see no sign of poor defrost. Also, everything in the fresh food compartment is nice and cold. Water dispenses at the door, so that pad is getting voltage.
I am thinking either the UI at the door and/or the mcb got fried during the storm, mainly because nothing else seems to support the story the fridge is trying to tell me.
Anyone else have any ideas/perspectives?

I had the same problem recently on one of our extended warranty calls. First tech came out and she said he reset the fridge to make it go away. He ordered new freezer drawer rails, which is what I came to install. Of course the error code was right back everytime they had any slight power loss. I just went and replaced the defrost sensor to see what happens, because I didn't have the board. Well the error code went away. I did find one of the thermistor wires were broken, so maybe it was weak and finally snapped when I was removing it. I wasn't overly rough with it for it break even though the wires are pretty thin. I personally have not been back to that house, but it is to early to tell if another tech has. I did this about 2 weeks ago.

Okay, now I'm backtracking a bit. If the MCB was somehow faulty, why would the unit still be working in every other regard? Took a look at the specs, the defrost sensor is only 2.3 volts DC, so it makes sense a voltage spike could smack it around.
However, what this doesn't explain is the non-responsive key pad. According the documentation I have, I should be able to turn off the fridge, reset the machine, etc., but instead I have nothing at the keypad.
I am thinking replace the keypad and the defrost sensor.
