New to the site.

I have a Maytag Dryer that won't heat. Already disassembled and checked resistance of element, thermal switches and get .2 ohms on all. There is, what I'm assuming is a thermostat in the exhaust that is reading 57K ohms. could that be the problem?

Thermistor in Exhaust 57k OHMs is OK
1) check and re-set the House Circuit Breakers for the Dryer
2) measure 120v and 240v at the Dryer Cord Terminal Strip

check voltage across the Controller Terminals
BLU 1 to BLU 2 =

WHT 1 to WHT 2 =

My deepest apologies Sensei. When you had me check the voltage at the thermostats, I realized I hadn't actually checked the resistance across the element, as I'd thought earlier. It's wide open.
Would you happen to have the part number?

me again... replaced element and dryer is heating fine, but now there is a burning smell and there is smoke in the drum when I open the door. there was a lot of lent inside the chassis and I cleaned most of it out. Is this common?

maybe... if the lint has been blown loose and has now reached the Heating Element ..
Have you checked the temperatures at the Dryer Vent ?

Dryer Vent

Vent should be rigid metal.
Short lengths of flexible metal may be OK, if not crimped when moving the Dryer into place.
NO plastic
NO PVC
NO screws
Foil Duct Tape is OK.
With an empty load, Timed Dry, High Heat, the vent temperature should cycle somewhere between 135F and 160F
Check / clean the Dryer Vent
Disconnect the Dryer Vent and check for good air-flow there and where it exits the house.
Check the Vent air temperature at the back of the Dryer.

That's definitely not an old Maytag, it's the Whirlpool DOTT dryer, maybe one of the newer Maytag labeled Whirlpools.

These DOTT style dryers get very serious lint build up if the user doesn't clean the lint screen on a regular basis, (IE: after every load).

I see the worst lint build up then any other style dryer in these and have ran across many of the gas models that the lint has built up so bad the burner has ignited the lint and the top surface of the lint is all burnt, very lucky they didn't have a dryer fire and burn there house down.
