Hello Sensei, Apprentices, Masters, Grasshoppers,

I have a Whirlpool Gas Estate Dryer. The ignitor glows, then shuts off. Intermittently.

I have read this page: http://fixitnow.com/...in-a-gas-dryer/ and THINK my coils are fine. I I am using a Sperry analog multimeter and can't tell if I have the right resistance.

I have tested all the components here: http://fixitnow.com/...n-a-gas-dryer/. (Igniter, Radiant sensor) All check out fine.

Found THIS post: http://appliantology...__fromsearch__1 Everything fine except the cycling thermostat bias heater. I think. I tested the Secondary contacts (that had the purple wires) against the Main contacts (that had the red wire) and nothing happened.

Is it likely that the cycling thermostat would case the igniter to glow, then shut off intermittently?

Or am I over thinking it (and my skill with the multimeter)?

Many thanks for all the help thus far!

-Jeff

Model is: TGDX640JQ2

Glows for < 10 seconds. Sometimes it ignites.

I have not observed how long it stays off.

When it ignites, how long does the Flame stay ON ?
has this Dryer worked OK for you up till now at this location ?

sounds like weak Coils
(can't be determined with a resistance test)
common problem, cheap fix

Good question. I have not observed how long the flame stays on either.

Dryer has been acting up for about a month. Before that, it was fine.

Ok, so no way to test the coils huh? So just buy 'em and swap out?

I have seen these coils fire and run three times before they fail over a hundred times. To a novice the fact that it ignites and shows the proper resistance leads them to believe the coils are good but experience shows us over and over that it is a common issue.

It can be other things but start here because there cheap and they will fail sometime anyway.

Thanks all. I ordered the coils shortly after REG suggested them. They are already at the FedEx location.

I'll keep you posted.

Ok,

Coils arrived late Wednesday. I installed them yesterday afternoon, put the dryer back together and have now completed 4 laundry loads without a problem.

Thanks REG and the rest of the Appliantology Forum!

You guys rock.

Hi All,

Dryer came down with the same problem again.

I reordered new coils and just installed them. Problem continues: dryer glows red, shuts off before igniting.

What is the next likely problem?

Same dryer as before:
