Thanks to the flowchart I'm trying to test the defrost heater first and haven't been able to unplug the part. I don't want to cause more problems than I've got already. I can't see the plug well enough to see if I can pry at the connection. Is there an area I should be pushing in like a release tab or something? Will it hurt anything to grab ahold of each side with pliers and pull?
Is the power supply side a female connector that I should worry about crushing if I use pliers? I'll be greatful for any help/suggestions to help me move forward with this.

These defrost heaters rarely fail. Usually the problem is the defrost thermostat.

no need to disconnect anything (besides power) in order to do an OHM test on the Defrost Heater

Scott, I see where the plugs(heater) are and have tried to pull them apart with no luck. Can I grab the two sides w/pliers and pull w/o messing anything up? and should I test the thermostat first? if it's bad, should I still test the heater? Thanks.

probe into any of it's Connectors or at Defrost Board w/ or without removing the Connector

Have you tried doing a forced Defrost mode ?

RegUS_PatOff , Thanks again for your response. I've just read up on the forced defrost in the service manual and I'm headed to do that now.

I finally found the place to probe to test the therm. & defrost heater. If I had bent over further earlier, I would have seen the multi wire plug kinda pushed up high above the therm. When I tried to force the defrost with the light switch, I got nothing.

If the Defrost Heater and the Defrost Thermostat Switch test OK,
then sounds like a bad Defrost Controller

Tonight will be my third night to try to remove the left side back screw in the frig side to get to the ADC. The others came out easily w/ a 1/4" nut driver but I can't seem to get it seated on this one. Any suggestions? Surely it's the same size head, right?

Going back in...I've gone too far to give up now.
I'm fortunate to have an extremely old(from the 50's) Admiral that is helping keep some of the essentials cold.

The back screw will require a narrower 1/4" socket with extension.

Thanks. I've tried several different 1/4" sockets I have and they're all too fat. I'll go shopping for another tomorrow.

Bought a socket that fits into the area last Monday, Thursday, a new meter. Gave myself a break for a bit and now I'm headed to order the defrost control board.

I appreciate the help I've gotten here. It's a sanity saver.

The ADC arrived today. Yaay! That was the good news. The bad news is that I can't get the front piece where the freezer section/frig. section control knobs are located to come down. The service manual mentions a screw where the filter is but there isn't one. Other than that I've removed all the screws I can find and it's holding on tight. I've taken pics so I can look more closely but I'm not recognizing any clips but I'm guessing I just don't know what I'm looking at/for.

Will someone please direct me in this.

Installed ADC ...still wasn't right. I wasn't confident about my thermostat testing so I ordered one that I received today. Chose to test it before installing and it isn't showing continuity. I have lowered the temp of the ice/water the therm. is in to 24' but still nothing. I've used all the ohm settings, switched the leads back and forth, any variation I can think of....just in case. Tried my old meter, too. Watched the therm. testing video numerous times, thanks for that help, too.

Any thoughts, suggestions or is there nothing else and I should just go ahead and ship it back for an exchange?

original Defrost Thermostat closes at rated 25F
may need to get it colder
OR possibly replacement Thermostat is rated colder...
Ice water won't get colder than 32F (it would freeze) unless you add some salt
Just install the new parts and wait for a few days. ...

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll install when I get up in a few hours. I had added salt when I made the crushed ice slush and it hadn't gotten any colder than 24' when I started kickin' back about an hour ago. And thanks for mentioning those original temp.numbers i hadn't found anything mentioning those and the video had used 30' as an example.
