GE Profile PSS25MGNA refer - freezer not freezing
#21

The Defrost Thermostat is on the Evaporator Coils.
The new Defrost Thermostat has no connector, and needs to be spliced to the original wires.

no need to remove that Cover..
The Defrost Thermostat is on the Evaporator Coils.
The new Defrost Thermostat has no connector, and needs to be spliced to the original wires.
Also - when I splice the connection, do I just use electrical tape or is there some special tape I need for being in the freezer?
Never mind the above. I unplugged the damn thing, spliced the wires and used wire connecters plus electrical tape to connect them. It's back on now and I'm going to run the diagnostic tests outlined in the repair manual.
Thanks again hun! You're my hero!!

about the amount on the bottom of your first picture (first post)
and about the amount in the circle in your last picture (last post)
Just remember, the Fan has to be able to blow air through it...
Although, without the Cover in place, there will be more frost build-up ..
and not as much cold air being blown into the Fridge section ..
At least put the Cover in place (with one screw if needed)

Okie dokie - cover back on with two screws. We'll see what happens now.
I am going to buy a lottery ticket though - maybe I'll win and can buy a new refrigerator.

At what point in time do I trash the damn thing?
Nevermind that's a rhetorical question - I don't have the money for new one anyway.
Any suggestions as to what I should do first now - the muthaboard or the thermistors?
Or better yet - how do I find a reputable - aka not-an-asshole-who-knows-what-they-are-doing-and-won't-gouge-me-price-wise - repair man here in the Kent, WA area?

Damn it - it's doing the same thing after replacing the freezer heater and thermostat.
that's the reason for doing tests before replacing parts ...

I know - but as I previously stated - I don't know how to use those damn testor thingies.
Any suggestions on finding a repair man here locally? I'm pretty damn sick of messing with it.

If I were 10 years younger and didn't have a disabled son who just had surgery yesterday here at home, I'd definitely try myself to fix this stupid GE refrigerator (again).
I'm just plain tired of messing with it.
So.... now I need to decide whether to spend the $ on an appliance repair man, or buy something else.
I'm going hunting for your page on appliance brand recommendations and read through that.
Thanks again for your patience hun - you really are awesome!

I see that this procedure involves soldering - never soldered anything before so I'm going to have to think about this.
I do have an appointment with this appliance repair place this coming Tuesday - they were totally booked for yesterday (Friday) and Monday. Will have to think about this - I don't even get paid until Nov 2 so I may have to cancel that appointment until after I get paid anyway.

You can perform some testing of components via the fridge control - details of the procedure can be seen on pages 33-35 here. You can see if the freezer fan and defrost element operate as outlined
