Greetings,

After trolling along for a while, I'm pleased to be in the company of the appliance oracles!

The Fisher Paykel gwl10u2 we've had for 10 years doesn't want to go into rinse. It gets through regular wash fine, and it starts the rinse cycle, but then after about 2 minutes in, the machine just completely shuts off. No blinking lights, no beeps, nada. It will then not come back on right away, but will allow me to turn it back on after a couple of minutes. The display lights do not show any form of error. It just starts like it usually does. There is a slight burning odor noticable when the lid is lifted.

So far I have: *checked the flow of water from the discharge hose while it is briefly in rinse, and the stream is full and freely flowing.
*put the machine into diagnostic mode and tried to get a fault code, but no lights light up to show a fault.
*put the machine on its tummy and pulled the gray plastic 'y' (is that the diverter valve?) that's in the front right corner. the valve inside it can be pushed toward the other side with ease, and i don't see any discoloration.
*i ran a snake inside the discharge hose and the hose that goes to the top of the basket and did not have any obstruction
*the motor attached in this area was a little warm to the touch after being off for 10-15 minutes and had an odor reminiscent of the burning odor after lifting the lid. however, it looked normal and there were no signs of corrosion.
*i can advance the machine to the spin cycle, and it will spin to its heart's content.

sounds like a bad drain pump

That's what I was leaning towards myself. Anyway I can test the leads to see?

GWL10 runs the main power circuit through the pump. The pump has thermal overload protection. Your pump is tripping the overload, which effectively makes the machine dead until the protector cools/resets. No need to test the pump, just replace it.

Thank you all for your time and advice. I'll go ahead and replace the pump. Since Fix it now doesn't carry fisher paykel, where would you recommend I buy it?

Be sure to get the correct pump for GWL10. It's electrically 230V, unique to GWL10. Part Number 426956P, substitutes now to 420324P.

Should read 33 ohms if you want to check it just for kicks.

Man, y'all are good. Right on about the part number. Went with Sears (they were $24 less than F P) and then the discount too! Thanks for hooking me up! It will be here next week, so now off to request a service manual. Thanks again!

you dont need a service manual

tip machine back ,

disconnect plug and also earth wire

turn it i think anticlockwise a small amount and then pull the plastic lock tab

finish turning and remove

refit new one using a small amount of lubricant on the seal ( liquid soap or similar)

reconect wires and job done

I just replaced my drain pump today and did not lubricate the seal. Should I remove and do that to get a better seat. I am getting a vibration (kind of) noise now but it works like a charm.

if its not leaking then dont worry

pumps often vibrate , not much to worry about
