A dryer lint filter that's choked in with lint can cause some weird, surprising problems. In this case, the customer called me in because his dryer was making a weird whistling noise while running. A quick check of the lint filter revealed the problem. After the lint filter was cleaned, the problem disappeared!

It's supposed to make that noise when the lint screen is clogged. Some of the Whirlpool family of dryers came with a lint alert whistle.
