GE Cafe Model CGS980SEM1SS Range Keeps Locking
#1

I think the electronic panel on my GE Cafe model CGS980SEM1SS is shot. We can set the temp, and the oven will turn on, but after 10 minutes (or more or less -- somewhat random), the control panel says "LOC" and the oven stops operating. Lately it doesn't even say "loc" any longer and just turns off. The control panel no longer responds. If we unplug it and plug it back in, it will work again, but will ultimately lock up.
I suspect we should purchase a new electronic panel. Any advice? Is it difficult to replace? Are there any instructional materials on appliantology??!!

Sounds more like a possible stuck "LOCK" key on the touchpad, ("Gas/Control Lockout - hold 3 sec.") or maybe the connector cable between the touchpad and the oven controller has gotten pinched or damaged causing it to think the lockout key is being pressed.

I'm not sure on that brand / model, but... the oven will turn on, but after 10 minutes ... the control panel says "LOC" and the oven stops operating.
would the Oven shut OFF if the LOC feature was enabled while the Oven was ON ?

The solution there was to replace the heat sensor. I took the heat sensor out of our oven and checked the resistance. The resistance was 1085 ohms at room temperature, which is in range.
My next thought is to go ahead and replace the heat sensor anyway -- perhaps it is malfunctioning at higher temperatures? Seems like a reasonable thing to try since it's dirt cheap -- $20.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks,
Brett
