When my washer spins it makes a bunch of noise and when it stops it usually bangs really loud. kenmore model 110.27721600
It has never been a "good" washer. it just seems "cheap" in many ways.
My question - should I try another repair? or just get a new one? I read an article on this forum about this topic but I still don't know quite what to do - I wish someone would just say something like this - oh the 700 series Kenmore is crap, don't fix it - just get a **** ****** model, they are awesome, quiet, reliable, easy to repair, and really cheap. (fill in the blank) (please)...

it's like it's out of balance all the time, it causes the machine to walk, and it seems like the top of the drum is hitting the walls all the time, even if you try to stop it and adjust the load, it still bangs and walks. On top of that, it usually does a really hard stop at the end. just BANG, and its stopped. I've already had to replace the motor coupling and drive block in the past.

That's what I get for replying from my phone without looking up the model.

Are you on a off-grade floor?
Check the rubber pads on the legs.
Are they in place and OK?
Is the machine sitting level?
The rear legs may need re-setting.
The rear spring inside the cabinet may be loose or broken.
Sounds like the brake is working fine.

- Level floor, pads ok, the self leveler is really tight though - I will check the spring ...

The skate plate (diagram #14) may be out of alignment. I have found this when a Whirlpool built Direct Drive washer has been laid on it's side or after an out of balance load. Try opening the lid and grabbing the inside of the tub (be careful not to grab the tub ring #8 in diagram ~ I have broken one before) Lift the tub up and move around a little to re-align.

You can check the suspension pads. (#13 & 15) Sometimes these can disappear for no apparent reason. If they are in place, you may want to sand them a little with some fine sandpaper. They could be causing friction and not moving smoothly. Be sure to do both the upper and lower pads.

The other thing is that the brakes may be grabbing too hard at the end of spinning. This creates a jerking like motion. I have added just a little axle grease on the brake housing just between the brake spring. Not too much, just a little dab will do ya. Be sure to not get any near the clutch... you don't want it slipping....

By the way - IMO this is a great machine - Best built EVER!!

But opinions are like buttholes, everybody's got one....
