Brand new LG LDE3017ST burners shutting off

20 posts in this topic

We bought a brand new LG double oven range. Love the features and all that, but when the oven is on and we put 3 of the 5 burners on, the burners shut off. We get the HS (hot surface) indication. It will shut off anywhere from 1 to 5 times before the burners stay on and we can cook. Called warranty, but I would like some pre visit ammunition. Thoughts?

Sounds like normal operation - since it is a glasstop range you are seeing the elements cycle - the HS light just comes on to warn you not to put your hand on it. You will always see the radiant elements turn on and off, that's how they work.

I thought that, but we set the burners on a setting, and they shut off completely. We have to turn them back on to start cooking again.

If you turn them on without a cooking vessel they might cut out on safety - if you have a pot of water etc it will absorb the heat, the elements will always cycle on and off regardless of the setting

Looking the unit up, I C it is a "hybrid" that is, one of the surface units is induction - you must have the correct cookware for that to work (magnetic)

I had no idea about the hybrid thing. Thanks. The elements do cycle on and off, but when this happens it actually shuts off at the control. Interesting.

If you use the wrong cookware on the induction unit - it will shut down

Since the unit is brand new - perhaps a little one on one time with the manual would be in order

I keep seeing more and more people buy appliances with all the bells and whistles like they GOTTA have it just to keep up with the Jones'. Which is good for appliance repair, but seriously folks, how often does everybody use all these features and why does everybody want to buy LG and Samsung??

The bigger question is---why do you always howl at the moon every time a consumer purchases an LG or Samsung product?

Why not rant about top-of-the-line vehicles with heated seats/wiper blades....cup holders that heat and cool beverages.

Audio and/or communication systems that respond to voice-command.

SUVs and pick-up trucks with brand names such as "Cadillac" and "Lincoln" with more options than you can shake a stick at.

Cars that can park themselves etc etc.

The answer is---it's what consumers want.

I complain, because it's lost jobs and lost profits for the USA, the profits go back to Korea and Mexico. I'm sick of foreign countries "OWNING" the USA, especially when they cheat on tarrifs like both LG and Samsung are guilty of doing.

I get real angry when I see a Korean war veteran bumper sticker on a Kia, Hyundai or a Suzuki. It just doesn't make sense.

So it's political.

Yet in another thread you admonished us by posting this...

Why?

We're talking about SOUTH Korea---not NORTH Korea.

South Koreans fought/shed blood and died with *our* veterans during the Korean War.

It'd make more sense to abstain buying Japanese & German products---considering that they were our *enemies* during WW2

I've watched the foreign countries swallow the US auto industry three times, Japan ate the electronics industry, now they are going to eat the appliance industry as well.

Rumor has it that GE wants to sell their appliance division to LG or Samsung, so they can completely close Appliance Park in Louisville, Kentucky and lay everybody off, including their factory service technicians.

Let's completely do away with all our manufacturing jobs in the USA, then we won't have any middle class anymore. :banghead:

I'm not aware of any Japanese appliance manufacturer---with a sizeable market-share---in the North American market.

I read somewhere that capitalism was made for a virtuous people. We no longer adhere to virtue and logic, so what should we expect. Top to bottom the system has been corrupted. The corporations never have enough. Much of the middle class does not know what a full day of work means, (especially union members),(I was a teamster for a short period) and the so called poor expects and gets (plus free health care) what the middle class has or doesn't have, for free. Hows, that for bringing politics into the mix, my appliantological brothers. Soon we will be singing "God save the king." I just hope I can get a gig repairing the kings appliances.

Sing that---and you'll be sent to the gallows.

The new King will be secular---better to sing "Church of the Middle Earth Save the King!"
