This is my day to feel beyond stupid. One of the light bulbs at the top of the fridge under the center cover has burned out. I CANNOT get the cover off. There are 4 tabs - no problem. There is what looks like a plastic screw upfront. The manual says "on some models you have to take the screw out". Ok, so I tried to grab the serrated flat knob and twist. Nothing. Then I tried my trusty Leatherman. No budge. Then I worked my way up to a friggin Channellock. Still wont turn. If I squeeze any harder and try to turn it I will break something. There is a hole in the center of that "screw" and something there, tried inserting a small regular screwdriver in there and it wont grab anything.
What the hell is going on? How impossible is it to get out a stupid screw?? What am I missing??

Oh, and while we're here, the old lamp lasted 9 years and the manual doesn't even tell me what to use as a replacement? 40 watt appliance bulb?

Go ahead and have a good chuckle over the idiot who can't remove a simple fastener. Then please provide kind guidance and advice

Maybe inside the plastic "screw" is a specialized metal screw. If you can't get your head in so that you can see it, you can try using the camera on a cell phone. Could it be that the screw inside the housing has a recessed drive? Like a hex, Torx, or Bristol spline? I'm sure you already tried a slotted and a Phillips driver. I once destroyed a component cover on a radio by twisting a knurled plastic housing that was part of the cover instead of being the fastener itself.

But then sometimes, after years and years, two pieces of the same kind of plastic will weld together. If you can get an exploded schematic of the refrigerator's parts, you should be able to tell what's going on.

I would use 25 watt bulbs (less heat) - if you can locate a blue tinted bulb it is much friendlier light for a refrigerator.
