I want to replace the outer door

As I was prying the inner ring off, it started bending so I stopped. Has anybody had success getting one of these doors apart without breaking anything?

Remove the door from the unit and remove the handle. You will need a stiff blade putty knife or screwdriver, to insert between the inner metal door panel, and the outer plastic frame. You will need to pry up and out on the plastic frame tabs, until they are dislodged from the metal frame, you'll need to do this all the way around the door.
