Hello everyone, first post here.

 

Having some issue with my June 2009 purchased Samsung WF328AAW/XAA-01 Washer.

Somehow enjoying the debugging, but much less the $$ spent trying fixing it.

Here is the gist:

- Stopped working in the middle of a wash, completely dead, no light or action on control panel, door locked.
- Open washer and checked that 120V power was getting to the main board OK.
- Removed main board assy and inspected, found burned diode and resistors around the primary side of the
transformer for the +15 and +5V.
- Ordered new replacement board from Sears, through technician during a chat session - last time I am doing
that, just want to sell you something, anything...
- Received part reference DC92-00240A - no difference on the outside with my original board.
- Installed board into washer, came back up with working control panel display
- Tried to run a cycle and got error code 3E - meaning Over-current is detected.
- Checked for the coil resistance on the brushless stator - confirmed 11.5 Ohm reading between each of the
3 motor wires.
- Entered the Quick Test Mode and ran a motor test - the motor runs in one direction but not in the other - error 
code 3E showing up.
- Checked the Hall sensors voltage reading and confirmed they are both OK, going between ground and 3.75V 
when rotating motor by hand.
- Used a scope on the sensors and confirmed nice 60ms  square wave on both hall sensors when motor is turing 
(in one direction only).
- If the coils and hall sensors are OK, seems like the motor is not the issue.

I am a bit at a loss right now, thinking that the Main board received from Sears is not the right one.
- maybe a wrong or different firwmware, display says 9708 when running the S/W check mode.
My motor has the hall sensors attached to the stator, not removeable (same as part DC31-00049A) which, according 
to John63 earlier post on this forum (thanks for great help and education BTW) is the first generation.  The magnets 
have a rounded shape.

Is it possible that the replacement main board that I received from Sears is designed to work with the new 
motor (DC96-01218D) and has issue with the old motor because the magnet poles are not at the expected location?  
Getting the new motor is not an option as other posts mentioned that the shaft diameter of the new motor is different.

I plan to return the board back to Sears and get my money back.
Where is a good place to get a board compatible with my old generation motor - exact reference appreciated if anybody knows.

First up, you could have ordered parts here, this is what comes up

Secondly, try turning the basket by hand in both directions and see if it will indeed turn in both directions.

Yes.

 

The best action to take---would be to contact Samsung (ask to be directed to the Parts Dept).

 

Give the full MODEL & SERIAL numbers---as it appears on the label of the washer.

 

Ask for the *correct* part number.

 

There were several different versions of the WF328 washer built---very confusing.

- basket is turning OK by hand in both directions.  No hard point, no nothing.

- learned my lesson about ordering from Sears - key decision for me at the time was that they had the part in stock and RepairClinic was/is out.  Wife wants this thing fixed....

- I will call Samsung per your recommendation.

Update:

 

- Called Samsung part dept., gave the model and serial number, went on hold for 2 minutes, came back and said they had the part

- I asked what part number it was and they did not want to give it to me, against policy (really??)

- Explained my issue and ask how they can be sure it is the right board for my washer, answer was that's what the database says.

- Also was told that they will not accept returns on PCB (!)

- Placed the order so I could see the part number in the email confirmation

- Part number was DC92-00240A, which is exactly the same part number on the box I received from Sears Parts

- Canceled the order as I do not want another board with exactly the same reference.

Bottom line, Samsung was no help....

 

Questions:

- The Service Manual downloaded here (thanks for supplying it!) reference the board MFS-WF318A-T0 as the replacement part.

- It also references the DC31-00049A as the replacement motor, which is the right motor that is in my washer (the one without the hall sensors replaceable).

Safe to assume it is therefore the right board?

 

Anybody at RepairClinic.com has an idea on the difference between the under 2 parts?

Does RepairClinic.com accept returns on PCB?

Thanks for answer and help.

I will order the board from RepairClinic and give it a try.

In the meantime, going out to buy a new washer to keep wife out of my back - thinking of a LG WT4870CW

It's a top loader as the wife did not like the smell coming out of the Samsung front loader.

BenR.......You are going to spend about  700 to 800 clams on an imported piece of 'soon to be repaired appliance' ?????................ How about looking into an American made appliance???...................... Speed Queen model  AWN 542 or AWN 432...Could keep a tax payers job.....Somebody has to pay for the new Affordable Health Care ...

Speed Queen is good choice/well made---especially the top load washer.

 

Speed Queen front load washers are ideal on concrete flooring *only*. It's also somewhat small (3.3 cu ft) compared to competitor brands of front loaders today.

 

Front load washers---overall---clean soiled laundry better than agitatorless top load washers---as long as the correct type & amount of detergent is used.

Update:

- Problem resolved

- I received the replacement board MFS-WF318A-T0 and it worked flawlessly.

 

So, in case this can help someone else:

- Old motor with the rounded magnets motor DC31-00049A needs the MFS-WF318A-T0 electronics

- New motor with the flat magnets motor DC96-01218D needs the DC92-00240A electronics

 

Both Sears Parts and Samsung were wrong and referenced the wrong board for my washer  WF328AAW/XAA-01

Wife is not getting the new washer (called to cancel the delivery), so no worries yet about giving money to the Chinese.

Thank you all for your help, forums like these are priceless for the DIY.
