This one is more like the Whirlpool Cabrio rather than the Calypso-- and thank the pit-bellied, buck-toothed, bald-headed Buddha for that! Probably have a piece of clothing stuck between in the inner basket and outer tub.

remove the wash plate and check for a coin or other foriegn object. Under the center cap is a 10 mm screw, that all that holds the wash plate in.

We have seen the main control send power to more than one motor winding causing grinding noises that you would think was a gearcase issue.
