Title says it all.

20+ year old dishwasher making a grinding noise - old enough I can't find an exploded diagram to aid in disassembly.

Appears to have a telescoping tower in center - in that tower there's a piece of plastic clearly broken on the end, but it won't come out w/o disassembly - and I can't figure out how the tower comes apart (no obvious Torx screws like shown on other Maytag d/w)

Should I take the kickplate off first to check for water leaks at the motor?

Thanks for any help!

Well, I was able to unscrew the wash tower and clean broken glass from the filter area.

Now it sounds more like squealing than grinding.

Bad bearing on the motor?

This dishwasher was actually made by General Electric for Magic Chef.

This is what it sounds like you need to replace, but it's hardly worth it on a dishwasher this old unless it's in great shape.:
