I forgot to mention that there's a 'burning' smell when it starts to slow ...
I wouldn't think it's the plastic gear (referred to in the video above) since the mixer moves fine with no load or a light load - it slows down greatly when warm and under heavy load.
Also, there is no speed change at all - when it has slowed down under load - when I vary the speed control.

Have you checked the brushes? One on each side, I believe there maybe access/screw slot covers on each side of the main housing.
