Gotta a person saying the washer is leavin black stains on her clothes....she thinks its coming from her washer. I have asked her to remove the center softner disp and check for black softer build up... she see's no black softer build up. Also asked her to try to remove the stain w/soap and water to elminate the tranny oil getting into the tub. No luck! Stain will not come out.... So I am gonna say its a leaking tranny!

There is no way for the transmission to transmit oil inside the wash tub.

Perhaps she washed a eyeliner pencil.

Agree with JT.  Not tranny oil ... does not show up black either - more dark reddish brown, like rust.  Pull the tub and see what's down there.  Or check the dryer for something stuck in the felt.

This statement tells me she isn't sure but just knows her clothes are getting black marks from somewhere.

I just did a job where the clothes were coming out of the dryer with what looked like black magic marker marks on them.

A glider bracket had broken causing the tub to ride heavier than normal again the felt. This wore the felt out and caused black build-up around the tube rim. The gap at the bottom of the tub was now larger allowing clothing to get in where they normal can't. When the clothing came in contact with the front area of the dryer it was leaving black marks. Had to change the glider bracket, felt, and clean the tub rim to get rid of the marking.

Thx for the posts fellas and I will pass info along! Memory serves me right she does have a 16+ year old Kenmore dryer.....

one of the greats, but the felt has possibly worn thin and more than likely has turned black.

 

I have also seen this before on older dryers....never thought about that!

I asked her to wash a load and inspect clothes before placing in dryer and  after washing a load she is still getting back streaks.....gonna have to crack into the washer to see whats goin on w/it.

 

Oh and asked about any missing eyeliner.....no missing pencils and such

Ok I think found the problem!

 

I took apart the washer and when spinning off the basket nut I found the block w/the 2 tabs across from each other that hold the spin tube in place was broke. When it broke it caused the basket to drop. So the inner tub was rubbing on the outer tub on the bottom so much the metal was shiny!

 

Now I dont know if there was another factor involved, but will a tub w/the painted rubbed off cause a black stains on clothes? I did clean a ton of back crap from the bottom of the inner tub I used a spare inner tub I had laying around and did replace the basket drive block .

 

So I am gonna call that repaired due to a failed basket drive block .
