... pushed the start button and the dryer started. The only problem was it cut off as soon as I released

looking at the wiring diagram,

bad Motor (centrifugal start switch)

OR Motor not getting up to speed

OR bad wiring between the start Switch and the Motor

Just to close this out, I ended up replacing the timer and the motor.
