Latest oddball thing with my Thermador range [it was a gift! I'da never bought something like this!!]

When the oven is pre-heating, the ignitor glows alright, and the burner burns, but after going

gangbusters for six seconds, then the flame stops for four seconds, and the cycle repeats

until the oven is heated fully.

 

All the time this is going on the ignitor seems to be doing it's thing.

I carry a  minimum of two P/N 5303935066.............They have the long leads, about 17".............. I prefer to replace an ignitor that has one long wire lead than  have  a  wire with one or two ceramic nuts connecting two / three pieces  together.. ( Just crimp on new terminals ) ............Some Vikings / Thermadors  use two ignitors............I prefer to replace them as a set but , 'The customer is always right'..( "No, just replace the failed one" ).............I compare  the pair of ignitors to a  pair of head lights on a car, the second one is not far  behind in failure......................

I don't believe that is true in the case of ignitors CTG51.

 

The reason being broil usually gets used much less the bake.

 

Off hand I can't remember more than 1/2 dozen broil ignitors that I have replaced in the last 10 years.

 

Bake ignitors a different story, just this last two months I've went thru 9 or 10 of them, which is many more then I normally go thru.  I normally only go thru 2 or 3 ignitors a month and usually order at least 4 at a time.

 

Another good ignitor to carry if you normally like the 5303935066 is the GE WB2X9998, it also comes with the long 17" wires, ceramic wire nuts and also has the dual mounting bracket tabs so it can be used on all the normal ranges like the 5303935066 and can also replace the GE ones where they mount the ignitor on the opposite side of the burner, (so you don't have to mess around with changing the ignitor mounting bracket/cage).

 Sorry on my last post..........Should have been more clear...............On some models of Viking, Thermadors they use two (2) bake ignitors, cuz there is two (2) burner assy's............... The dual gas valve is on the left and the burner assy on the right is about 17 inches away............I have serviced units that have had previous ignitor replacement, one on the right ......  someone  replaced  an ignitor that only had a 6 inch lead, resulting in them using porcelain nuts to splice all the short wires together...... I like to have a clean looking repair, just so the next tech ( heaven forbid )  looking  at  the   repair and it does not look like a repair, he does not say " Who in the h%ll did this mess " ???...................So, when I am down there, I might as will replace both bake ignitors, neatly............

I see very little if any Thermadors around here and I won't work on Viking, Wolf or SubZero anymore.
