Oh Samurai, help is needed again.. My GE PSS26MGPABB fridge is getting warm at the top of the freezer, but it looks and feels like the bottom is fine. Coils are clean, compressor is running - but it seems like the Evaporator Fan is not. No noise, no blow.. This has happened before. Mr. Pro Repair man fixed it last time, this time I want to try it. Can you point me at something that will tell me what screws and panels to pull so I take off the right stuff? Is there any way to check to see if the fan motor really is shot? Does it always run when the compressor is on? Any other checks to see if it might be something else?

Since I really need some refrigeration, can I leave it running like this while I get it fixed?

1) actual temperatures may help ..

2) would need to visual the Fan operation

3) what was replaced ?

Depending on the first (2) characters of your serial number, there may be a recall on the MotherBoard and Evaporator Fan. Replacing only the MotherBoard and not the Fan, may cause the new MotherBoard to fail.

4) would need to visual the Fan operation

5) sometimes there's a delay before the Fan runs ..

6) while you're in at the Evaporator Fan, take a look at the frost pattern of the Evaporator Coils... post pictures..

Ok, I will try to pull the panel. I don't need to get to the Evaporator itself, just the fan..The last time, 3 years ago, the fan motor was replaced and it's been fine until now. Meantime, the serial number is HF415609.. I found the recall list and my model number partly matches, but the serial range is HH and up, fridges made between May 2005 and on. Our fridge is from Spring 2003. If I am reading this right it was not recalled, unless I'm on the wrong list.

Is the motor AC, and can I get a voltmeter in there and check for voltage at the socket - or put line power on the motor, etc?

yes HF = May 2003 ... not in recall

may need to see the frost pattern of the Evaporator

Fans are DC

Evaporator Fan:

White = common

Red = +12v DC

Yellow = +8v DC to +12v DC

Ok thanks, preliminary look is that the connector might just have popped out.. I think I got REAL lucky here! Thanks for your help, let's see if we're ok now..
