I've
been away from home, house has been cold, down to 50 degrees (that's where I
keep the house heater set). Anyway, opened the fridge to find 3 exploded cola
cans with frozen soda all over the inside of the fridge. A large container of
water is frozen solid. I keep the fridge cold, around 33 to 34. Freezer was set
to zero. I tried raising the temperature on the refrigerator side to 46 but
"it" kept running. I think I am hearing the compressor and or fans.
They don't shut off. I live in the middle of "no-where" I rechecked a
small container of already frozen water the next morning and it's still frozen
solid, but I had also put a small glass of fresh water in last night and it is
not frozen. To further check, I put a thermometer in just now and it's reading
zero ‘C’.

 

 

 

From
reading the on the site, it looks like I may have a bad thermistor?? (among
other possibilities) I could use some help in diagnosing the problem and
locating the termistor(s). No problem using a meter or replacing parts. Any
help will be much appreciated

#16 is the thermistor, you would need to remove the light components to gain access to it for testing. Looks like the one on the celing is where it will be. Also remove the front kick plate at the bottom, and look for the tech sheet, on the back of the kickplate grill or on the bottom right from the front, of the bottom of the cabinet. this will help with diagnosing the too cold, situation you are experiencing.

In diagnostic mode, test both the freezer and fresh food thermistors. If they both pass, manually test them (computers lie all the time). Freezer thermistor is located on the evaporator cover panel   ..inside a small housing the clipped to the right side of the  panel.

Came
back home for one day. Had lots to do, but did find time to run the Service
Tests.

Here
is what I found.

freezer set to 6 and refrigerator set to 38
 

141 Fresh Food thermistor - Measured with thermometer 29, displayed 42

142 Freezer thermistor – measured 4, displayed 2

144 Ambient – measured 67, displayed 83!

145 Icebox – meas 28, displayed 7

 Any ideas? Seems like they are all off and some way off.

 

I’ll be back Monday to look into this more.

may need to post pictures of frost pattern of the Freezer Evaporator Coils

Also make sure the refrigerator light is really turning off when you close the door.

LOL - ok, when I get back I will put a camera inside of the refrigerator in self timer mode. Not sure if I need a flash or not since I don't know if the light will be on. 

 

Oh, and I'll get that frost pattern shot right away.....
