Hello,

I am in need of some serious ancient wisdom for my Frigidaire Affinity front load washer. The basic problem is that it will not perform the final spin, so being a bit of a researcher I have been reading the forums and doing some troubleshooting. Here is what I have done so far:

1. Removed the door latch assembly and checked the resistance. It came back at 1500 Ohms, which is within specs I think.

2. Dissasembled the unit and cleaned out the drain trap. Found a few dollars in change, wads of gook and a bobby pin had made it through the trap. After reassembling, the machine worked for seven or eight loads but then the same problem started.

3. I actually sat in front of the washer for a 45 minute cycle. Everything works, the machine fills, rinses, tumbles and drains no problem, but when the final spin is reached the machine beeps and turns off as if the cycle was over.

4. I went into the diagnostic menu (thanks for the service manual). The error code was E41 and oddly enough the diagnostic test for the spin cycle worked. However even if I try a spin only cycle in normal functioning the machine just buzzes and does nothing.

Any help or further recommendations would be greatly worshiped. Thank you....

1) not a definitive test
2) E4x = bad Door Latch Assembly (very common problem)
 
When the Washer should be Spinning,
is the Door Locked ?
Is it really locked ?
If so, then un-plug the Power Cord from the Wall Outlet...
Can you then open the Door right away ? (bad)
OR only after a few minutes ? (good)

OR could possibly disassemble and replace the internal Wax Motor

  The most common failure on this machine is the door latch. E41, "The control board thinks the door is not latched". The diagnostic test overrides the door latch. Could be a wire connection problem also between the latch and control board.

Awesome, thanks for the quick replies!

I turned the washer to the Spin Only cycle and tested the door with the power on. It was locked and did not open.

Then I unplugged the power cord and right away I was able to open the door.

So I guess I will be ordering a new Door Latch Assembly...

Thanks for the advice and I will follow-up after I install the new part!

Edit: Just took a look at repair clinic and they say I may need a new wire harness and door strike. Should I order these with the Latch or just if it does not work after I install it?

if your "old" Door Lock looks like the "new" one,

and the Connectors are the same,

you won't need the new Harness

I wanted to post a quick update:

 

I ordered the Door Latch Assembly from Repair Clinic, and it was shipped and arrived quickly. I am very happy with their service and would recommend to others.

After installing the new part I have been running the machine for about 2 weeks now and it seems to be working perfectly. Thanks so much for all your help.

 

One last question, is there anyway to rebuild/repair my old Door Latch Assembly so I can use it later?

As for rebuilding your existing door lock assembly, there is a post somewhere on my blog at fixitnow.com that shows that. Or, Brother Willie may weigh in on that as I believe he has some experience with this particular repair.

12002535 Wax motor would be the part you would want to order to repair a bad wax motor in a Frigidaire door latch/lock assembly.
