Looks and sounds like the clutch or transmission is messed up. There is no oil or metal shaving laying around the bottom of the unit, and no visible signs of trouble. The tub and agitator don't seem to be operating properly. Should I pull off the agitator and start my investigation in that direction, and what exactly would i be looking for?

I think that is a atlantis type of washer. If it isn't spinning it would most likley be the thrust bearing. Need a little more info. Is it spinning at all? Possibly a coin in the pump or a bad pump if it is more of a noise issue.
