MAYTAG LAT9356AAE Washer Noise

3 posts in this topic

I have an older Maytag LAT9356AAE top load washer.  It's making a roaring noise while in the spin cycle that I am assuming is coming from a bearing.  It also needs a tub seal kit as the tub is leaking (this will be the 2nd one).  Any clues on the noise?  Does it pay to fix (parts)?

The noise is most likely from one of the lower bearings. Depending on how the machine looks and overall condition it is probably worth fixing, since in my opinion they don't really make a decent top load machine anymore.  If this is something you are doing yourself and your cost is just the parts, go for it if everything else is in decent shape. If you do need the center seal, you really need to change the tub bearing also.  That isn't where you noise is coming from, but if you are spending the money on the seal you need to replace both parts or you are wasting your time and money, as the new seal won't last. These are the part #'s You will need

6-2095720  stem seal kit  6-2040130  tub bearing kit  22003441 bearing in the top of the brake package (most likely causing the roaring noise) and 200835 lower bearing (if needed)

Looking at the parts diagrams I came up with the same solution. Thanks for the confirmation. I replaced both the tub seal and bearing last time and it solved the leak problem, but now it has the noise and I noticed the tub isn't spinning as fast now during the spin cycle. The noise seems to be coming from the bearing above the brake assembly.
