Working on a Samsung Refrigerator. I need a new main control board and all the parts sites show many different controls. I know you find the correct part by the BOM#. At ASTI 2013 i had talked the samsung guy and according to my model# RFG297aabp and BOM#RFG297abbp/xaa, he says i need a DA41-00538G. I cant find this number under my model on any of the sites. All the sites show mutiple boards with different numbers. HOw do i tell which one i need? I am Just starting to work on samsungs (Thanks to the 2013 ASTI training) and want to be able to order the correct parts when i need them. I think i need a Da41-005538m (Sears Parts Direct). I think the samsung guy wrote down the wrong number. Please help!!!!!!!

Btw I thought the BOM number was the number after the "/" and the model number was before the "/" .. If so then you have two different model numbers in your post. I used RFG297aabp/xaa

The 00538a does not work in the fridge. tried it already. The Bom is the born on date. if you type in the full BOM number i stated above it pulls up a complete different part number 00538m. The Samsung guy said to always use the BOM number when ordering parts to make sure you get the correct part. Im just so confused with all this. He says i need the 00538G and i cant find that under any parts diagram except Samsungparts.com and it stated 2 for the Bom listed above. The M and the G. i fully trust the samsung rep. i just want to know how he came up with this so that when i have er problem with a samsung i can get it taken care of quickly and not be throwing parts at it. So frustrated with this.

Damn....that's the reason I stopped working on them for a while. Started back when my local parts house began carrying the parts. But then they are at the mercy of Samsung. I must have misunderstood him in class re BOM...I would love to review the class materials but still waiting for them to be uploaded to the class site. Would have taken better notes or had the instructor upload the material directly to my thumb drive as others did if I knew the materials would be delayed. I would check the class site for his email and email him. If you get an answer, please let us know.
My parts house asked me a question re Samsung the other day....they had a customer who needed flex ice maker. The parts company told him the part no and he said it was not the same as the one in the machine. He became very very upset as the original ice mold was larger and he feels everyone is giving him wrong info. I asked the parts house if they used the BOM number..they said they did. They asked me If i knew if there was a change. I sort of remember talking about this in class but not sure... You remember anything about change in tray size?
btw Didn't he also say you need the BOM and serial number to be sure.

that's right....he's the one that gave out CD's I was a few minutes late to that class and meant to get one afterwards. I think I forgot....thanks! That cat really had his act together....they should have him reorganize their uj...don't know what you would call it.. but their parts ..model number..bom number ...serial number....have everything match up... division

I have personally never seen a model number and Bom number that different.

That's good info to know. I always thought the Bom number was the model number plus the modification info (number after the slash). That must have been a heckuva major modification going on with that model or, more than likely, a labeling mistake done by one of those mistake prone manufacturing sites described by the instructor.

Ice maker not working was the original problem. Had talked to an authorized samsung tech and said i had to change the control board w/the ice maker. I talked to the samsung trainer at ASTI and he said it sounds like the wrong board was installed. After checking (the correct part number her gave me) my part i installed, i found i ordered the wrong part. I am mainly trying to figure out why they have so many boards for the same model # and also how to know which one i need (for future repairs).

I think this problem will dissipate as Samsung is getting better across the board. Remember he said it was TV guys during most of their stuff at first. Now they have learned to be or being replaced with dedicated fridge people.
