GE pds22mfsabb always running or clicking

8 posts in this topic

My GE PDS22MFSABB bottom freezer refrigerator is either running or making a clicking noise.  The digital display inside flashes and reads incorrectly and the temperature fluctuates with the freezer (so far) getting up to about 7 when it is set to 0.

The clicking is coming from an access panel on the back of the unit.  There is no frost build-up inside the unit.

It is getting worse and I want to fix it before it fails.  Any suggestions?  I searched the forums and found a few posts similar, but not quite the same.

Thanks!

sounds like a bad Compressor Start Relay
OR
bad Compressor Overload device
(or possibly a bad Compressor)

The flashing display may be a warning that the Fridge temperature is too high.
Does the display flash when the displayed temperature equals the "set" temperature ?
(when flashing "7", set the temperature to "7")

it only flashes when the clicking starts.  other times it reads the correct temperature in the frige.  The lights in the kitchen dim a little when the clicking starts too.

I've removed the cover "caution - do not open this cover" to see if I cann narrow down where it is coming from.

Usually when the Turbo Cool is pushed the temperature comes back down.  The fridge is a 37 (set at 37) the freezer is at 9 (set at 0).  It has been runnibg steady for a couple of hours, but has not started clicking since I made the post.

We bought this unit just before a move and it sat boxed in the (heated) garage for a couple years before being put into use.  It has always had poor freezer temp control if the ice maker drawer isn't pushed all the way in or if gets pushed against the wall.  I clean the dust & lint from the back regularly and replaced the fan in the back of the freezer a few years ago when it was not defrosting and making noise (frost on fan blades wore out a bushing).

Thanks again.

motherboard , motherboard , motherboard

replace motherboard

It seems the onlything behind the panel is the motherboard.  Should I wait for it to click or just order the part?

They quote me $199 then offered 10% discount.  I'll buy it through the link below instead.

GE = Garbage Electric.  I have known this since delivering appliances in high school 25 years ago.  But my wife got a great deal through her work.  I got a great deal of work!

Thanks!!

That was the Big Clue that the Muthaboard is the problem.
