Need to remove ice/water dispenser from GE bottom freezer GFSL6KKXALS

9 posts in this topic

I need to replace the ice/water dispenser (ASM CASE-ICE ROUTE) on a GE GFSL6KKXALS (which I understand is made by Samsung).

I do not know the equivalent Samsung model number for the GFSL6KKXALS though.

I think I just need the correct serivce manual. If someone could provide me a link I'd be eternally greatful.

Thanks DA. I tried using that one. It is a very similar model but this dispenser has an additional bezel around the entire area that is not taken into account in the PFSS6NKW PFSF6NKW

manual.

Did you request the manual in the Appliance Service Manual Request forum? Maybe you can get a rare win in a game of "stump the Reg"....I wouldn't bet on it though.

Ge made by Samsung..my God what's next? Dogs and cats living together?...Mass hysteria!

If Reg, the great god of all things electrical and service manually(?) can't get it to you in time, then we may have to rely on the teachings of another great one, Sun Tzu and his seminal Art of War...'cause appliance repair is war.   So following Sun Tzu, let's first study the layout of our battlefield ie, the diagram.

What we see is a bezel yet no screws being represented.  That's not unusual but it gives us a clue.  The next thing we notice is the little squares on the door surrounding the dispenser....I surmise they are holes for clips and if you look at the top right of the bezel, there appears to be little protrusions, possibly clips. Based on this, I imagine this bezel is of the type you pry off found on many GE's

Now if it breaks, I will rely on the lessons of one of history's greatest avoiders...

Thanks DA  - we have a winner!

I used an old plastic prying device I got with an ipod fixing kit to get behind the bezel - it was slightly raised on the upper left side leaving a nice gap big enough to get the thin edge of the plastic tool into.

Plain sailing after that!

All credit given to Sensei Reg for posting an exploded diagram and to Sun Tzu, posthumously.
