Maytag Neptune Dryer

4 posts in this topic

I have Maytag Neptune dryer M # MDE5500AYW when setting to sensor dry clock starts at 47 min. and sometimes counts down to 40 mins and dryer shuts down as if cycle has finished. If you push start button again unit will imediately start back at 47 mins again. Also sometimes unit will jump time from 40 mins down to 18 mins. Also if opening door to put another garment in, after closing door when you push start button unit will not start back without pushing off button first to start back over. Can anyone help me? Thank you.

Do all these problems only happen with the sensor dryer setting on, even the problem with it not starting back up after adding a garment?

Before replacing any parts or taking any of the machine apart,  I would use a green scrub pad and a little elbow grease on the two sensor bars.  After the scrubbing (no soap or water needed) you should test for continuity on one of the bars, probes on each end of the same bar.  Check the second bar.  They should  each read a lower resistance. (<--a little quality assurance on this statement is welcomed.)  If not try more elbow grease.

Once you have done the above, try running another load.  If your problem continues, you may be looking at replacing a computer board.

Maybe can check ohms for thermistor and sensor bars at main control.  J4 1-2 for thermistor, J4 3-4 for sensor bars.  If good could be main board.  How's your air flow?
