Sub Zero Freezer not getting/staying cold...

9 posts in this topic

Sub Zero freezer 1st had ice build up, so I replaced defrost timer.. Ran for a while (2-3 weeks), then wouldn't stay cold, everything would be defrosted randomly, fan wasn't running so I thought ez, and replaced fan switch. Well worked for a day or 2, but still doesn't seem to want to get/stay cold. It will work for a while (half a day or so). Then the fan doesn't work and compressor doesn't turn on. It stays chilly but not cold. I have to turn the thermostat all the way down to 10 to get the compressor & fan to kick on, then roll it back to 5. Not sure wher to look or how to test... Thermostat? Comp Relay? Control knob? thanks guys.. Sub Zero 590.

1) did that fix the ice build-up ?

2) both controlled by the Thermostat (as long as it's not in a Defrost cycle)

GMF,

1- Yes that did fix the frost build up.

2- I can't get it to come on now at all.. I tried flipping the breaker (worked before), but nothing now.. ugh, holiday weekend.. I saw something online where you can test the thermostat with an ohm meter. I'll try  it and report back. thx for the manual too!!

thankyou vm!

1) may be in a 25 minute Defrost cycle

2) won't determine an intermittent, nor "sticky" Cold Control

Well, I decided to dig into the control and take a peek. I pulled the cover off and could see the wheel and what not. After jostling it around a bit,  it clicked on! I fig'd I'd wait and see cause I was thinking it once it hits the defrost cycle it doesn't turn back on. Sure enough a few hours (more than 6 hrs) later it was off and wouldn't turn back on, so must it be hitting the defrost cycle and after that it doesn't come back on. So last night I gave it a good slap and it turns on.. LOL. So I'm not sure if this is just a mechanical issue, where I can get in there clean out the control and get'er going again or if I should spare myself the pain and order the new control..? Any thoughts?

Gotta replace that control Brother tim. P/N 3012881 as Bros Reg and ctg advised. Sounds like your evap fan motor and defrost components are all okey-dokey.
