GE Side by Side Fridge

Model# GSS22SGRESS

Owners Manual 20,22,25

Started clicking from behind at regular intervals, every 2 seconds

Does not click all day, just randomly starts up

BUT

Press anything on the freezer side (touchpad or dispenser hand) clicking goes off and the freezer fan(?) comes on

All lights are working on touchpad

Freezer cold

Fridge cold

Water stopped dispensing 3 months ago

Ice maker makes ice but stopped dispensing 1 month ago

Had a bad solenoid replaced 3 months ago  & was told water stopped working because line had frozen. Repair guy offered a $90 kit GE has that keeps the line warm but he said a free fix was to use a blow dryer and once defrosted add fishing line to the tubing. If it freezes again we could jiggle the clog loose with the fishing line. Good info but it stopped working about a week afterward & we could not see a frozen line to blame this time. Not a big deal to us as we use the filter water on our sink faucet but would like to get the ice dispensing again.

Attached a few pics of controls on fridge. Tried to upload a short audio byte of the clicking but it wouldn't work.

Have no experience with repairs but am willing to try to diagnose issue before having a GE service call again!

Ok, I did read the earlier posts on that and my Model is not on that list of "recalls" but I was crossing my fingers it might be something less scary.

So without any repair knowledge, is my best bet to just call GE repair and have them come replace?

No...you can do this! Strictly plug-n-play on these...as it happens, its one of their few redemming qualities. Hang around and one of the brethren will link the part for ya..

Ok I ordered it and should arrive by Saturday. Are the included instructions going to be enough for a novice (with 2 toddlers hanging off her leg) to figure out how to install it or is there another thread I should reference for installation?

Thanks!!!

The instructions are straight forward. Since you have digital controls and is a sxs you can ignore the section relating to bottom mount fridges and encoder models.

Brother d is spot on , as usual. You also might have a couple extra plug connections on the new one that aren't on the old board...all the plugs on these will only fit where they actually go...ignore the extra ones.

The part arrived last Saturday and I had it installed within 10 minutes!

The clicking sound is gone.

The filtered water and ice (both cubed and crushed) works again.

Thanks again for all the help!
