The Whirlpool-built vertical modular washer (VMW) is a common high-efficiency top-loading washer on the market today also sold under the Maytag and Kenmore brands.  This washer has a computer that practically troubleshoots itself... IF you know how to talk to it.

In this eco-journey into appliance repair wonderland, Samurai Appliance Repair Man shows you how to get the tech sheet cleverly hidden inside the washer and how to use it to put the machine into diagnostic mode.  Once in diagnostic mode, the Samurai shows you how to retrieve the fault codes stored there and decode them so you can let them guide you to the problem.

In this particular case, the problem illustrated is a bad mode shifter-- a very common and easy to fix problem with this machine.

Here's the part link to the mode shifter replaced in this video:  http://www.repaircli...0006355/1719787

I like that stand for the washer in the video. Did you make that or can it be bought some where?

I bought that stand 25 years ago, back in the Whirlpool belt-drive washer days. That's what the stand was originally designed for. Works great on Cabrio washers, too!
