Hotpoint Fridge

4 posts in this topic

This is a Hotpoint fridge I inherited from the previous owners.  I can't find the model number (apologies for my ineptitude).  The freezer works fine, but the fridge is not staying cool anymore.  Also there is frost building up on the back of the inside compartment of the freezer. Could it be some kind of defrost problem, or am I flaunting my ignorance again?  How do I go about checking this out/repairing?

Please help oh wise ones.

If you have a frost build up on the outside of the freezer wall, I would suspect you have a defrost problem.  Behind this wall you would probably find a wall of frost/ice blocking the air flow to the food compartment.  If you have a rotary compressor that is failing the whole box would be warming up.  Remove this back panel and see what the frost looks like.  If the whole evaperator is blocked with ice you will need to see what defrost components have failed.   Defrost timer, bi-metal, or defrost heater,or a combination of the three.   If you just have a ball of ice on the top corner of the evap., replace the box.  Let us know what you find when you have removed the panel.  If you have a defrost problem we will have to help you check the system.  Pegi
