Frigidaire Gas dryer FSG747GES1 won't always start

4 posts in this topic

My Frigidaire Gas dryer will sometimes faile to start when you turn the "Start" knob. There is a humming noise when the knob is turned and it stops when the knob is released. This happens most often when there is a large load. To get it going I usually open the door and rotate the drum a bit and it will usually start. It's almost like there isn't enough "oomph" to get the drum going.

Thanks!

Sounds like the drive motor is about to fail.  Blower wheel appears to free of any restriction that would cause similar symptoms since you can rotate the drum.

PDuff,

Thanks for the quick reply. One thing I failed to mention is that this has been going on for several months. Could/would it take this long for a motor to fail?

I replaced the motor on this dryer with a used, tested motor. While I had the machine apart, I decided to replace the rear drum bearing and the belt. Now the belt seems to slip. I used the idler pulleys that came with the new-used motor. Is there not enough tension on the belt? Are new belts longer? Very frustrating. Any suggestions are appreciated.
