Maytag washer model # A208 serial 335451 oil in tub?

7 posts in this topic

Older maytag washer (very old) with the shallow tub and the old short aqua color agitator. people are complaining that when they washed clothes it left oil spots on their clothes. they showed me several artiles of clothing that had oil spots on them ranging in size from dime size up to maybe a 8 inch circle on one t-shirt. wierd thing to them was that it was real random and only affected about half of the clothes in the load. wierd thing to me was while it indeed did look like oil it was almost clear like "salad oil" or "turbine oil" on the clothes no brown or black oil like i would suspect from a bearing or transmission. of course they insisted their was nothing left in the pockets of anything that could have affected the wash.  any ideas?

There is no way for transmission oil to migrate to the wash tub in this machine.

The t-shirt with the 8 inch oil spot is the source of oil in the tub.

yeah , i must have gave the impression that the t-shirt went into the washer with oil on it. that wasnt the case at all . it was an example of the oil spots that got on the clothes after the wash and how random they were in size some where tiny and one or two where huge (like the t-shirt mentioned) and some had none at all. Also like i say it definitly looked like oil but like a light colored oil the clothes were still the same color but like a light blue shirt would have a darker blue spot thgat looked like oil stain a white t-shirt would have an oily looking spot that looked more grey than white etc. any ideas if not oil from tranny? thanks. sorry for any confusion caused by my description.

Pull the agitator and look for any oil type residue around the tranny shaft.

I doubt you will find any.

These  older Dependable Care washers DO sometimes leak oil around the agitator shaft seal.
