Hello all,

So my KItchenAid dishwasher KDI-17a has been finickey to operate since we purchased our house.  A dance of turning the timer knob and opening and closing the door handle usually made it work.  Then recently it started pushing water out into the floor while running.  After researching my brains out I think this thing doesn't have a float to make it stop filling, instead it must use a timer to control what is going on.  I have been working the dishwasher knob by hand the last few weeks, advancing the knob to make it stop filling, to go to the next cycle, to drain, etc.

Today I go to wash dishes and poof, nothing happens.  I checked the breaker and it is on.  I verified there is power to the timer box by using that tool that lights red and beeps when it senses ac power (no clue what it is called).

Now to my question - is there a test for this timer unit? a way to check for voltage or something?  I can't find a timer unit and would think I could test and adjust this thing.

35 year old dishwasher plus. Most parts are not available anymore. You would need to take lower panel off and check at electrical box under dishwasher and make sure you have  120 volts there. This way you know that you have a hot leg and a neutral leg back to the electrical panel.A tool that beeps means only that you have a hot leg put does not mean that you have a neutral leg and a path for the circuit back to your electrical panel. You need a voltmeter.Water valve still available for dishwasher.Make sure screws that hold dishwasher to counter top have not come loose as this would cause switch not to make contact when door is shut.
