First notice that the freezer stopped making ice. Refrigerator is little cool but, not quite there. Seems to be some ice buildup

in the back of the freezer. Moved everything out of the freezer to another one. Suggestions on where to start? I'll have some time

after work to start looking into it and looking for suggestions on where to start. Thank you!

http://www.repaircli...ber=106.8682880    Take freezer panel off and look at frost pattern on freezer .if completely frosted over you have a defrost problem it could be one of three parts two of which i posted and the defrost heater comes up as no longer available .The most common defrost problems are the two parts in the post. Also make sure fan is working in freezer.http://www.repaircli...ber=106.8682880

Blower isn't working. Frost pattern is just the upper left covering something with wires coming out of it. The coils don't seem to have any frost on them.

I didn't buy any of the defrost control parts since the blower wasn't working, we knew that was bad. They're closed now anyway. I'll defrost it, run hot

water down the drain tube, and install the blower. We'll go from there. I'll take a picture before it defrosts though for future reference. Thank you!

Potential problem! When pulling the housing holding blower motor, I removed 4 1/4" screws. After they were out I lifted the housing and a small 1/4" long metal

"tube" or hollow bushing fell onto the freezer floor. It has a brass looking color and I have no idea where it came from! HELP! i'm sure it's needed. I just don't know

where to put it. Don't have a manual so, I can't look at parts locations.  :(

Found the brass looking grommet location! It fits like a bushing in one of the screw mounts for the main back panel. Fan working now, we'll see if it

cools properly!

Excuse my ignorance, how do I find a photo hosting site? I've never used one before? I've noticed many photos on this site. How do I go about getting them

on this site without using a photo hosting site? Is there a membership level that would allow me to do that?

First time I've tried this, hopefully they work? Used the "Copy Link" item in Photobucket.

Tried the links myself, they get an error and don't work. Will try something else?

Rats, I put everything back together after starting it up! I'll pull the racks/panels out after work and take a quick pic.

Didn't think to do that. Thanks!

OK. I opened the freezer back up today after work and took pictures after it has been running for 1 day.

This is the same spot that was a block of ice yesterday. The refrigerator and freezer are working GREAT so far!

The entire Evaporator should be covered with a thin layer of frost, evenly.

I see a trip to HomeDepot in your future

Well, I bought this refrigerator in August 1988. I guess I can't complain too badly! It's the last of our original appliances. I talk to friends buying new units

and repairing them after 4 years it gives me the creeps! How do you find a quality unit that will last? This one is a Kenmore but, do they still build them

this well?

Kenmore doesn't "make" anything

Your Kenmore 106. was made by Whirlpool

http://www.appliance...ase/sears.shtml

You could check Sears Appliance Outlet Store for some scratch & dent appliances,

sometimes 50% off

this is not a sealed system leak . this evap has a think chunk of hard ice  across the top of the evap

this is a good thing , it also looks like it just did a defrost and the ice was so thick that the time ran out before it could get through the think chunk

did or do you have a bad door gasket ?

or a bad evap fan motor can do the same thing , over a long long time , it would take a week or more of the fan motor not working to do this

SORRY ABOUT THE SPELLING , I FIX GREAT , I DON'T SPELL WELL
