All Appliantology tech members are invited to join in this workshop on all things Appliantological.
We have a special session planned for this one. Instead of the usual Show 'n Tell on a technical topic, we're going to post tech sheets in the comments to this Calendar Event (scroll down to see what's posted so far) and ask specific questions that can only be answered by reading the tech sheet. If you at least try to answer the questions beforehand, you'll get a lot more out of it. The tech sheet and the questions are posted in the comments section below.
Your mission, if you should choose to accept it, is to check out the questions for each one and try to answer them ahead of time. Then come to the Dojo to see how well you did!
Who: This workshop is only available to tech members at Appliantology.
When: Saturday, April 27 @10:00 AM Eastern Time.
      Where: Online via Zoom
      How:
Click here to go to the forum topic with the registration link. If you're interested, register now. Arrive a couple minutes early to make sure your connection is working. Set a reminder for yourself for this workshop so you don’t miss it.  And check out past workshops here: https://appliantology.org/announcement/33-webinar-recordings-index-page/

Honeywell temp thinger on wall

Do these things fail ever? I ask because today, the bedrooms on our top floor are super warm. The temp reads 75! No one has touched the thermostat and when I try to make the heater kick on by turning the wheel, it doesn't click. However I can hear the boiler running. Come to think of it, it might be running constantly!oh my oil!!!!! Any thoughts? Thanks for helping!!!!

would need picture or model number of Thermostat

Some use quiet "mercury tilt" switches

Just a sec, trying to upload. The # is T87F 1800 2 EU.

The temp is going down, somehow.

That's it. Now I was able to get the temp to drop, and haven't heard the heater kick on by itself. But tonight, I will see if I can get it to work again. Maybe it was a fluke? This suckas about 50 yrs old I think. Maybe it's time for a new one?

A replacement base is available. Specify gas or electric heat when ordering. Johnstone supply or grainger should be able to hook you up.

That photo isn't exactly what we have. There is no cooling ability, so the back of the dial doesn't exist on my unit. I can't seem to upload the photo either!

Oil heat, too.

Now its working fine, but I did figure out how to upload the photos.

must have been a fluke, or one of my kids isn't telling the truth!

--Answer:Yes they can get out of calibration or stuck. did you clean the dust buildup off it to take the picture? you may have fixed it by doing that.

and when I try to make the heater kick on by turning the wheel, it doesn't click.

--Answer: mercury bulb thermostats never click. if they do , you better run :rocketwhore: ......

However I can hear the boiler running. Come to think of it, it might be running constantly!oh my oil!!!!! Any thoughts?

--Answer: It is unlikely that your  round thermostat directly controls your boiler. it probably turns on a fan, or enables a valve to put hot water to radiators or something similar.   your boiler maintains a constant temperature so hot water is available whenever you need it.
