Amana Washer problem

3 posts in this topic

Can anyone help me with my clothes washer. I have a top load Amana Washer Model Number ALW780QAC, the other day the washer started making a rapid clicking noise during the spin cycle. After taking the bottom front panel off I found out that tha noise was coming from the bottom of the transmission where the pulley and the Helix meet. I thought the problem was the Helix but after replacing the Helix the noise is still there. I noted that the pulley is turning counterclockwise direction (if you are looking from the bottom of the washer to the top). With the pulley spinning in this direction the helix will never catch. The noise is being caused when the pulley turns far enough to come off the ledge on the helix and slaming backdown on it. So is the problem a motor issue or a transmission issue or something else.

Only ever ran into this once, solution is to replace transmission/pulley/helix etc. These machines have a habit of the transmission getting rusted into the tub, and thus being impossible to remove. Personally, I'd advise against repair - maybe one of the other folks has a different take on this?
