I'm working on a Maytag Washer MVWC200XW2.  When it agitates, its making a metallic sound.  Any ideas?  I was thinking motor or transmission, but as both of those are pretty pricey, I would rather not guess.

Thanks!

John

A video or audio recording would help.

check the pump.  it's noted for the bearing coming loose and rubbing on the pulley.  I'd take a close look at that.

This is a VMW platform washer, Doc...no pulley on the drain pump on this one.

Any noise during spin?  How do the suspensions rods and bearings look?

Tilt it back and check that pulley bolt.

If that's good, then put it into diagnostic mode and get the error codes.  This video will help you to gird up your loins like a man:

Look to see if spin basket has become loose from it's mount. You'll have to take off the agitator, one 7/16" screw is all that holds it on.
