My Mom's 2-yr old Kenmore french door refrigerator bottom freezer is warm in the top section and displays error.

Model: 795.76203.901

The freezer is cold and appears to be working.  Repair tech cannot get here for 5 days and I am trying to troubleshoot or possibly repair this for her sooner.

I am a DIY-er and have worked on clothes washers and electric & gas dryers but don't have a lot of experience working on refrigerators, especially newer ones.

What error code is the display showing?

Kicks major Samsung booty first, asks diagnostic questions later.

No errors now but did have Error FF before unplugging it & plugging it back in. Compressor appears to be working as it is warm to the touch. The condenser fan (lower rear of unit) is also working. While freezer appears cold, some things are melting. Also has small build-up of ice at top rear center of freezer. Ice is also not being produced. Unit does have a louder than normal fan or motor sound that I just found out has been happening for several weeks. No other indications of anything that might cause this failure.

The FF error on this LG made darling would indicate a problem with the evaporator fan motor.

You'll need to replace the evaporator fan and, most likely, the main control board to completely resolve this issue.  Also check the molex connector for the evap fan to make sure it's not getting water into it.

As I stated in the original post, I am a DIY-er and not familiar with the locations of these parts. Please advise.

The service manual for your refrigerator will help you tremendously.  Here's some light reading for you: Kenmore LG Refrigerator Service Manual

Great job searching and finding the manual on your own!  There are a lot of regular tech members at this site who still don't know how to search the Downloads section, despite a screencast and help page on how to do this.
