I just got these in the mail today, I ordered two. They are RFID data loggers that monitor temps (there is also a temp/humidity logger available). They work with an Android app. You can configure the sample rate and other options through the app. You hold the logger up to the NFC antenna on your phone/tablet and it automatically reads it and uploads or downloads, depending on what you're doing, so no need to carry a laptop.
You can name each one, they have specific IDs, I named mine Fresh Food and Freezer.
I set my sample rate for 2 min, which gives me 11 days of recording. They are really easy to use, small learning curve if you are smart phone literate and can read and follow basic instructions. You can view the recorded data as a chart or a graph, and also email the file. You can view the file on a Windows application for PC as well. They also make an RFID reader that plugs into your USB port on your PC in case for some reason you don't have a smart phone (maybe you live in 1994...).
They sell for $49 each, the temp/humidity logger is $75 I think. Pretty cool IMO. I've been wanting a datalogger but I refuse to go back to carrying a laptop, so this is great.
Drawbacks seems to be that minimum temp it can record is -5*F and the reaction time to changing temps seems a little slow. But I do think it will be suitable for most cases.
I have two in a troubled fridge that will be there over the weekend, so on Monday I'll see if they are useful.
