My 21year old Maytag is making a banging noise, only during the wash cycle.  It especially seems to be noisy during the permanent press wash cycle.  This is our first problem with the washer, purchased new in 1984.

I recall an older non-Maytag washer doing this long ago and the repairman lubricated something, but I don't recall what it was.

Any ideas?

Hello, my banging friend.  May I suggest three things that would help you and also help us to help you?  Very well:

1. Remove the front panel to see if you can tell where the banging originates.

2. Post your model number.

3. Renounce your infidel ways and convert to Islam.

Allahu Akbar!
